Relaxation Therapy
What is Relaxation Therapy?
Relaxation Therapy is a holistic approach to the physical, mental, spiritual and recreational aspects of relaxation. Due to the context of this therapy - 10 sessions are recommended. This also involves working closely with myself to assess and re-evaluate your needs, expectations and values to bring balance into your life
Relaxation Therapy provides the knowledge to improve self awareness and the opportunity to find and experience different ways of releasing tension and learning how to cope with daily stress. Relaxation is a progressive therapy - you will learn new techniques, how to re-programme and change your thought processes - mentally, physically and (hopefully) spiritual development as you enjoy the subtle changes and experience the benefits of learning how to relax.
This is also excellent for those wishing to gain confidence in any life situations. It incorporates Meditation, Visualisation, Trance and Self Hypnosis, Re-programming of Negative Mental Attitudes, Crystal Healing and Touching Nature, Exercise and Diet to Progressive Relaxation Techniques (like The Ultranium Technique) and most importantly - control of the breath. - Please link into my other therapies for indepth information.
Your mind and your body work together. Psychological studies show that your mind and your body are strongly linked. As your mental health declines, your physical health can wear down, and if your physical health declines, it can make you feel mentally "down." A positive outlook can help keep you healthy.
Professional Relaxation Therapy can improve the quality of your everyday life by building the skills of resilience, which will help you adapt to stress and bounce back from life's most difficult times. Resilience isn't something you're born with - it's something you can learn over time. Resilient people are people with strong emotional well-being who have healthy relationships with people and an optimistic outlook. Optimism and good relationships both have been shown to improve health and longevity.
How would you define relaxation...watching TV, reading a book or something else?
Relaxation is the process of easing tensions in the body and releasing thoughts in the mind to calm anxiety recover from stress and focus on the present.
In this ever demanding and progressive world, people are finding it increasingly hard to find balance in their lives and to relax effectively (instead of using comfort food, alcohol, drugs etc). This is one reason why holisitic self help therapies/books have had a dramatic surge as people seek alternative ways to release tension, stress, anxiety and the many emotions that often begin to control their lives.
The Difference Between Therapies and Treatments
The role of the Relaxation Therapist is very different to say a treatment in a Beauty Spa for a relaxation massage – which can be equally as effective but does not empower you with new skills and coping mechanisms. As the Relaxation Therapist, I am essentially there to listen, guide and educate you (having identified what your needs are) with knowledge and techniques to incorporate into your daily life.
It does and will take time to change habitual thoughts. Not all techniques are suitable for all individuals – so it is finding the technique that is suitable for you at that particular period/time of your life.
It is also the individual’s responsibility to find the time, make that commitment, enjoy the process, note every session’s sensations and record how they felt holistically.
In taking all this into account, you will see the personal benefits with every session in the form of development.
This therapy incorporates counselling - a working relationship in which you are helped to explore and manage what is happening in your life.
Counselling may be concerned with:
• personal development issues
• addressing and resolving specific problems
• making decisions
• coping with crisis
• developing personal insight and knowledge
• working through feelings of inner conflict
• improving relationships with others
Or any number of other issues, large or small, which crop up in everyday life.
My role is to facilitate your training in ways that respect your values, personal resources and capacity for choice within your cultural context.
What's Counselling? I don't need it!
Many of us use some counselling skills in our daily lives as we interact, listen and exchange values and opinions about everyday matters and concerns. I'm sure you would agree that a problem shared (with the right person) can be a problem solved - hence appreciating advice/support from friends, colleagues and family members. Sometimes however, our usual sources of support can be too close or inappropriate — or sometimes part of the problem. Counsellors who have been trained over many years have been shown to be particularly effective in helping, especially in difficult or sensitive situations. As a Counsellor, I aim to be independent, neutral and professional and always respect confidentiality.
Counselling can sometimes be helpful to clarify our problems and challenges, identify changes we would like to make, gain fresh perspectives, consider the consequences of various options and acknowledge the impact of life events on our emotional wellbeing.
